20 years ago today on September 2nd 2000 and Lt. Nawang Kapadia graduated from the OTA and was commissioned as an officer in the Indian Army. This was the end of a grueling training at the Officers Training Academy at Chennai. Two terms of extensive hard work, learning the ways of the military, getting extremely physically fit, learning how to serve India and to become an officer in the Indian Army.
The day of graduation was marked by a grand Passing Out Parade. All the students and all the Cadets turning out and marching to perfection, inspiring speeches by Senior officers of the Indian army and the most important moment the Antim Path. The last step that they would take as a civilian. On the other side of the step they would become officers of the Indian Army with the President’s Commission.
This was followed by a grand party. The most important part of it was the Piping Ceremony. The cadets would change from the cadet uniforms into their Regimental to uniforms, don the olive green of the Indian Army. When they came out the stars would be covered. The two Lieutenant stars which would mark their rank. The stars would only be unveiled by the family of the cadet. Dedicating him to a life of service of the nation.
It has been 20 years since that day. It has been 20 years of missing Nawang. It has been 20 years of all these officers serving the nation in many different forms.
Many many congratulations to 20 years of commissioning, 20 years of service and 20 years of dedication to the nation
