August 2, 2005 was indeed a very special day for the residents of Faizabad Cantonment as on this auspicious day, there was a new beginning to promote nature conservation. A Van Mahotsav was organised by the AWWA 7th Infantry Brigade president Mrs. Neerja Sisodia, ladies and troops of the 90 Field Workshop Company EME in memory of late Lt. Nawang Kapadia. The plantation of 70 eco friendly trees on the beautiful banks of the holy river Saryu in this function will enhance the beauty of this area in a natural manner.
Carrying forward the initiative of started by Nawang’s mother, many friends have started planting trees in Nawang’s memory. This was one of the largest plantations of its kind. It was organised by Capt. Y.S. Katiya (Offg. Officer Commanding, 90 Field Workshop Company) who was a Nawang’s course mate. The Company cleared the area on the banks of the river and the plantation was organised by the ladies of the Company lead by Mrs. Simrat and helped by the troops.
On the due day, Mrs. Nirja Sisodia presided on the occasion. Mrs. Simrat Singh welcomed her. The function started by a tribute to the brave officer and Mrs. Sisodia planted the first tree. The troops of the 7th Infantry Brigade voluntarily took the responsibility for maintaining the trees.
It was a wonderful occasion and in words of Mrs. Sisodia, it was a “GOOD SHOW”
