Phor Thud Pipes and Drums Band

The Fourth Battalion of the Third Gorkha Rifles Pipes and Drums Band first played on February 20, 1963. On this day a Guard of Honour marched to the tune of the Battalion Band. It also played the General Salute when arms were presented. The flag was then taken into Quarter Guard and placed on pile of side drums

After that first performance, there has been no looking back. It has performed from as varied places as the Air Field at Leh to Rajpath for the Republic Day Parade.

On November 14, 1971, the Pipe Band and Bugler gave a remarkable performance on Remembrance Day Service held at Digbhoi Cemetery. It was highly commended by all the dignitaries present on the occasion. On February 20, 1972, Lt General Sangat Singh, Padma Bhushan, PVSM, Colonel of the Regiment witnessed the Beating of the Retreat

On February 21,1983, Maj SK Jairath, SM presented the Guard of Honour to the President of India, Giani Zail Singh at the Ahmedabad Air Port, to the tune of the Pipes and Drums. On January 26, 1984, the Battalion band participated in Republic Day celebrations at Imphal and added to the pomp and gaiety befitting the occasion

In 1986, the Band performed in the Army Day parade in Calcutta. That year it went on to win the Brigade, Division and Corps competition.

In the year 1987, the Battalion Buglers participated in the Republic Day Parade. This was repeated in 1991 and 1997 and since then it has become a regular feature. In 2006, the band participated in the Republic Day Celebrations and had the distinction of being placed next to the Presidential Dias.

The band is being commanded by Band Major Subedar Jas Bahadur Gurung.
