Navneet Nawang Trophy at the 4/3 Gorkha Rifles
The battalion established a commemorative trophy in the memory of Major Navneet Vats and Lt. Nawang Kapadia. These two brave officers shared bond of courage and valour that these trophies epitomises.
Fate has linked these two officers in more ways than one, Major Navneet was the one who had the sad duty to call our family and inform them of the martyrdom of Lt. Nawang Kapadia. Navneet was on his last day before he was to proceed on his leave to come home in time for the birth of his daughter. He was so inspired by Nawang’s sacrifice that he has written a letter that if he was to get a son, he would name him Nawang. His daughter Innayat was born 15 days later on December 7, 2000.
The Commanding Officer of the Battalion, Col. Basudev Mitra took the lead in getting this trophy installed permanently in the Officer’s Mess of the Battalion.
