Saluting the Real Heroes

Abu Dhabi Samskarika Vedhi (ADSV), had organised a moving function to honour 30 veterans of the Indian Armed Forces and Para Military Forces living in UAE on the occasion of the Indian Republic Day. The program titled “Saluting the Real Heroes” has been ongoing for the past 7 years.
ADSV is an Indian expatriate association formed 17 years ago in Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The objective of ADSV is to help the needy people in the Abu Dhabi and also in the home state of Kerala.
The event was inaugurated by Indian Consul Rajamurugan. The ceremony started with a floral tribute to Naik Abhijit, who made the supreme sacrifice in a landmine blast in Kashmir. ADSV President Anoop Nambiar presided over the function. TV Suresh Kumar, Sagheer OP and various other office bearers spoke of the deep affection and pride they felt for our Armed forces..
The veterans were deeply moved by the kind thoughts and the solemn ceremony. Soldiers shared memorable experiences during their service to the country. Sqd Leader Sangeeta Sharma (rtd) of the Indian Air Force, spoke of her service to the fighter squadrons during the Kargil War and at Research & Referral Hospital in Delhi where she provided dedicated service to the injured soldiers. She is currently the medical director of the Ahalia Hospital in Hamdan, Abu Dhabi.
The sacrifice of Nawang was honoured during the ceremony with a wonderful golden plaque.
Nawang’s coursemate Major Deepesh Gambhir (retd) was honoured for his services. We were also accompanied by Col Bobby Rizwi(rtd) who served in the Army with distinction, many of those years being in active areas. There were veterans from Army, Navy, Airfoce, CRPF and other forces who were present and received honours for their service to the country.
